The increase in speeding punishments
Much has been made of the new punishments for speeding, however do you know what they are.
Those caught speeding just above the speed limit can expect to receive a £100.00 fixed penalty fine and 3 points, or an invitation to a Speed Awareness Course. The punishments for high levels of speeding have increased dramatically. Attached appears a table from the Magistrates Sentencing Guidelines to give an indication that if you exceed the speed limit by 11 miles per hour in a 20 or 30, 15 miles in a 40 or 50, or 21 miles per hour in a 60 or 70, the Magistrates will be considering a disqualification. In addition, fines will be based upon income,a band B fine being 1 weeks net wage, and a band C fine being 1 ½ weeks net wage (although a third reduction is given for an early guilty plea).
The moral is therefore, don’t speed. If, however, you do get caught speeding call Chris Johnson at our Winsford Office on 01606 592159.
