In its annual 2016/2017 report, H.M Land Registry have announced that the Digital Mortgage Service will be going live for public testing this year.

The new digital service will allow  borrowers to go online and sign their mortgage Deeds at  time when they find most convenient. The Land Registry claims that by introducing this ‘Digital Transformation’, issues such as signed paper deeds getting lost in the post will be eradicated.

The Land Registry have also claimed that a Digital Mortgage Service will reduce application processing times. They have worked with the Government Digital Service Team to ensure that security will not be jeopardised. Before users are able to sign their online Deed, they will have to be ‘verified’ as the person on the Deed by going through the Gov.UK ‘verify’ service.
