Changing an Adult's Name

Changing an Adult’s Name

If you are 16 or over you can change your name at anytime provided it is not done for any fraudulent or other illegal reason.

An adult can easily change their full name or just their surname by completing a change of name deed which must be signed by the person changing their name in both their former and new names and the deed must be witnessed by an independent adult.

The completed change of name deed does not need to be registered anywhere but it needs to be stored safely as it will be required to prove the name change by such bodies as the passport agency, benefits agency, your employer, your bank, etc.

If you wish to change your name by way of a deed poll feel free to contact one of our family law specialists David Bannister or Stephen Warburton who can be contacted at our Northwich office on 01606 74301.

We offer fixed fees for many aspects of family work including change of name deeds.
