Affordable housing is aimed at people who are:

• first time buyers
• unable to afford to buy a home on the open market
• looking to rent a home but cannot afford to pay market rents

On the 4^th October 2017 The Prime Minister announced that a further £2 billion will be invested in affordable housing.

Teresa May stated this additional investment would raise the housing budget for affordable homes to just under £9 billion.

She also advised that the government would encourage the bidding of these funds by housing associations and councils in order to provide tenants with greater certainty over rent prices.
