ACAS EARLY CONCILIATION PERIOD EXTENDED
Employees wishing to make a claim to an Employment Tribunal (ET) must first notify ACAS who will then offer Early Conciliation (EC).
This is voluntary and the parties can choose whether or not to accept.
Should either party decline, ACAS will issue an EC Certificate containing a number which must be included on their ET Claim Form.
It the parties agree to EC an ACAS Conciliator will liaise with the parties and attempt to reach agreement. If no settlement is reached an EC Certificate will likewise be issued.
As from 1 December 2025 the maximum 6 week period for EC has been extended to 12 weeks. This applies to cases notified to ACAS on or after 1 December 2025.
