Driving eyesight requirements …

At this time of year as the nights draw in and the days are getting shorter are you finding it difficult to focus on ‘the road ahead’?

Are you sure that your eyesight meets the DVLA medical ‘standards of vision for driving’?

If in any doubt it may be time for an eyesight test

The minimum eyesight standards for driving are measured on the Snellen scale and this ‘standard’ also requires you to have an adequate field of vision.

If you need to wear glasses or contact lenses to meet the ‘standards of vision for driving’ then you must always wear your glasses or contact lenses when you drive.

The DVLA visual standard for bus and lorry drivers differs slightly from that of drivers/motorcyclists.

We can offer specialist legal advice on any motoring matter including :-

  • when to report an eyesight or medical condition to DVLA
  • the consequences of driving with defective eyesight
  • the powers of the Police to require you to take an eye test
  • what happens after your Driving Licence is revoked
