REDUCED COUNCIL TAX FOR LANDLORDS AND TENANTS

After campaigning by the National Residential Landlords Association the Government has announced that it will stop banding individual rooms in shared houses separately for Council Tax purposes. This means that tenants in shared housing will no longer have to pay large Council Tax Bills.

Houses of multiple occupation (HMOs) will be classed as a single property reducing costs and simplifying administration.

It is estimated that the average HMO tenant currently charged Council Tax on single rooms may save up to £1,000 a year.

Landlords will be able to let rooms inclusive of Council tax making budgeting easier for tenants.
