Lasting Powers of Attorney are an important step to protecting your assets and the registration fees are increasing from £82 to £92 on 17^th November 2025.

There were 1,490,584 Lasting Powers of Attorney registered in 2024, an increase of 28% compared to the previous year. Despite this, the benefits of them are not that well known.

There will be an estimated 1 million people in the UK with Dementia by 2030.

If you have assets, or liabilities, and may need someone to help you if you were to become unable to deal with these, for instance through accident or illness, a Lasting Power of Attorney would be key in accessing and protecting your financial affairs. You can even do a Lasting Power of Attorney to help with healthcare decisions on your behalf including decisions around life sustaining treatment.

If you do not have a Lasting Power of Attorney, and you lose mental capacity, someone will likely have to apply to the Court of Protection to deal with your property and finances. This can take a few months longer than a Lasting Power of Attorney and cost a lot more. The Government fees are over four times higher alone.
