Lasting Powers of Attorney are an important step in protecting your assets.
There were 1,490,584 Lasting Powers of Attorney registered in 2024, an increase of 28% compared to the previous year. Despite this, the benefits of them are not that well known.
There will be an estimated 1 million people in the UK with Dementia by 2030.
If you have assets, or liabilities, and may need someone to help you if you were to become unable to deal with these, for instance through accident or illness, a Lasting Power of Attorney would be key in accessing and protecting your financial affairs. Your Attorneys could step in to help.
Lasting Powers of Attorney are flexible allowing you to choose who looks after your finances and on what terms. You can even do a Lasting Power of Attorney to help with healthcare decisions on your behalf including decisions around life sustaining treatment.
If you lose mental capacity, and do not have a Lasting Power of Attorney, someone will have to apply to the Court of Protection on your behalf for the power to make decisions for you. This can cost a lot more, and take a lot longer, than a Lasting Power of Attorney.
We have an experienced and dedicated team who are ready to discuss how a Lasting Power of Attorney could help you. Call now on 01606 74301 and ask to speak to one of our Wills and Lasting Power of Attorney advisers who would be pleased to assist.
